Wild Atlantic Way IrelandThe West of Ireland, my spiritual home. Love Art.Wild Oghille Bog CottonPainted on the 18th of May 2017. I set my easel up on the route of the Oghille mass rock walk, by a ridge of turf so I could work at eye level. The weather stayed fine though cold. I left the painting for some weeks before adding extra white to the cotton. The Dunes at CastlegregoryPainted on a balmy summer evening, with atmospheric mist in the distance over the Maharees.ID206-Clouds-over-Croagh-Patrick-from-Oghille-Path-Mayo-Ireland-WAW-Wild-Atlantic-Way-original-oil-painting-Irish-art-Catherine-Considine.jpgI imagine that painting the fading light and the darkness that comes from stormy weather on Croagh Patrick would be a bit like painting the dark side of the moon. Lots of darks. Oil painting 492mm x 380mmCroagh Patrick from The Greenway at MulrannyThe weather was so perfect the day I set my easel up on the Greenway at Mulranny. Then, in what seemed like a matter of moments, the south westerly winds changed to north westerly and the colours of the blue ocean changed and lost the shimmers. I stopped up and did the final touches to the painting later on. Oil painting 492mm x 380mmThe Sea at Lisnagree West KerryLisnagree Beach, West Kerry.Evening AnnascaulEvening Annascaul. I took my easel out onto the strand on a beautiful day and lost myself in the colours. Oil painting 492mm x 380mmThe Sheltering OakThe Sheltering Oak is a wonderful mature tree just outside of Westport town that has grown bowed down, I suppose due to the weather, and creates a great shelter under its canopy. Oil painting 492mm x 380mmThe Nephin Beg and Ballycroy from Doogurt AchillFrom Doogurt the colours of the Nephin Beg and Ballycroy National Park are fabulously subdued. The moments are fleeting so I would wait on the hill for those moments, palette mixing to create the harmonies you see here. Oil painting 492mm x 380mmBlue Dusk on Golden StrandThere's a strange atmosphere you get when a veil of cloud is just deep enough to obscure the sunset, yet turn everything blue in the early evening. Oil painting 380mm x 492mmThe Snag on the HillThe snag on the hill in Westport Demense - painted on my last day in the west, summer 2017.
